What year did they change and aren't they still required to retrofit each unit within a building with one another with a fire alarm system? So if one unit goes on fire it alerts the rest of the units in the building? My concern is sharing common walls with 5 other units surrounding us with gas appliances.
I live in blue ridge which was built in 1972 - 1975. Each unit is connected to a fire alarm system that has a heat detector in each room and a smoke detector that is connected to the buildings power with a battery backup inside. The town of brookhaven requires the whole system to be checked once a year .
I know our units don't have a firewall per see but have thicker sheetrock as required on the connecting walls and have a space between the connecting walls .
now I would gather other developments built in the same time period should have that unless they are in another town.
Looked into it more. Each connecting wall is 5/8 sheetrock with the required space in between the walls. I have seen it myself in my unit anyway. In our complex we haven't had any fires that have destroyed whole sections of units. usually one or two units.
I would be worried more about a fire starting in the woods around the development then ones started inside.
