What to Know About Nintendo NTSC-J Video Games

Japanese video game titan Nintendo is known for releasing well-received consoles for the past four decades, and with recent hits such as the Wii and the Wii U, Nintendo knows how to make a console that releases games for all ages. The company's major franchises, such as Mario and the Legend of Zelda, have consistently produced games with replay value, and Nintendo has also released these games for what is known as the NTSC-J. This is a certain format referring to how the games are advertised and packaged, and it's available for a number of systems, including Nintendo's own Wii U.

In gaming, the term is used for distinguishing regions when it comes to selling games. NTSC-J means the product is being released in Japan, meaning that the language appearing on the cover of the game is Japanese. There is also no censorship label, unlike the American releases that are marked for age appropriateness. The packaging for the games released in Japan is cardboard instead of the American standard of plastic. The Japanese and U.S. video standard is shared, making these titles also playable on Nintendo systems that were released in the United States.

The Wii is a remote-control-based console that relies on gamers to move the remote (or in this case, the Wii-mote), in order to control game play.
