Skyrim How To Remove Shadows

0808

I have a low-end PC, and with some performance mods, the game runs fine in places like Whiterun, though I have to turn off distant objects with console commands, and I have to type teofis in the console as well.

But in places like caves or the Ragged Flagon, the game still lags horribly. I'm pretty sure it's because of the visual effects such as fog. How can I get rid of as many non-essential visual effects as possible?

  • Head to an Arcane Enchanter with a soul gem that contains a soul. You can find one in whiterun in the castle, Farengar Secret-Fire's room near the throne. Bring up the menu by activating the enchanter and select the item you'd like to enchant OR disenchant (which teaches you how to do that enchantment).
  • Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim mod Released Apr 2016. This will improve your shadows, increase your frame rate, and remove shadow striping. Shadow quality stays at an 'Ultra' setting equivalent, while providing a frame rate faster than 'Low' setting shadows, not to mention the shadow striping being fixed.

I'm open to mod-based solutions as well.

Lots of enbs use dark blue for deeper shadows, likely disabling the bars also cut off some form of film-grain effect or something that smoothed that out. You can try to fix the issue by fiddling with the enb, or you could just swap to another preset. Alternatively you could mess with your screen settings to make the shadows look darker.

Some mods or software that you could use to increase performance:

  • Have you tired from CTDs when your game is heavily modded? Unable to install HD texture packs without CTDs or travel in the world very fast? This patch fixes the problem and also brings you higher performance even without memory fixes enabled. THIS IS NOT A GRAPHIC MODIFICATION, so feel free to use with vanilla game. THIS WILL NOT DEGRADE QUALITY IN ANY WAY TO INCREASE PERFORMANCE.

  • Unofficial Skyrim Patch - a comprehensive bugfixing mod; also contains a 'savegame debloatifier' feature that may help improve performance

  • Skyrim Performance PLUS - installing it will give little (unnoticeable) graphics degradation, while certain CPU-intensive effects (falling rain, snow, leaves, etc.) are underway

  • injectSMAA - like FXAA, but looks and performs better (disable FXAA if using this; if using ENBSeries, use the 'ProxyLibrary' .INI setting to also use injectSMAA with ENBSeries)

  • [uses] a feature called Occlusion Culling, where [it] manually puts occlusion planes in some spots of the interiors to improve performance. What these occlusion planes do is unrender parts of the cell/objects/NPCs that are not being seen by the player, in most cases behind a wall or above/below floors (occluded).

If less things are being draw on-screen at the same time, it means your hardware is using less processing power to achieve the same thing, and it automatically converts in better performance.

These mods will increase performance, depending on a computer's specs, but will degrade graphics or turn off visual effects:

  • If your computer spec lurks somewhere near or below the edge of the recommended minimum system requirements you have probably noticed that the option to disable shadows is not offered in the launcher, and consequently may have noticed that the low quality shadow settings look like garbage. If you scratched a little deeper you probably tried disabling shadows by changing the commonly recommended ini values and were disappointed to find everything had turned dark and colorless. The vanilla shadow options amount to menu choices between a garbled blocky flickering striped mess and a beautiful slide show, or editing the ini to induce a global dungeon vibe. This mod offers a alternative that I think strikes a nice balance between eye candy and system performance by removing most of the system-hog shadows. Everything will still be shaded to create the static, nice-looking shadows and colorful lights that utilize relatively little system resources. The shadows that are removed by this are the dynamically-rendered flickering shadows, commonly found near flames.

  • This is a cut down version of Bethesda HD texture pack for Skyrim. It aims at improving Skyrim visuals while, at the same time, allowing PC users with old systems to benefit from higher resolution textures.

  • Interior and Dungeon Fog Remover
Removes fog in dungeons and indoor locations; use this if getting low performance in these areas.

Replaces most default 'fog' meshes with blank ones.

Several people have commented saying they are getting better performance in specific areas, so if you notice unusual performance drops in the presence of fog, this might help you.

  • HiAlgoBoost dynamically modifies internal rendering resolution in order to increase frame rate, and utilizes various additional approaches to make the game more responsive and smoothly controllable. It does not affect game contents.

Skyrim Shadow Remover Mod

There are three main areas where you can look to maximize your Skyrim performance: Settings, .ini, and Mods.

There is a rather nice and comprehensive tweak guide on the Geforce website that covers the first two areas. It goes into detail about which tweaks give you the best improvement vs lowest performance tradeoff. You can do that in reverse and find the settings that affect performance the most and turn them all down.

As for mods, there are a variety of mods designed to improve Skyrim performance on the Nexus Mods site. A simple search reveals these few(there are many more).

There was a great walkthrough on how to cure Vampirism on Gamefront: due to that site's redesign, it's been lost, but here's the list, distilled:

  • If it's within three days of becoming a vampire, you can cure the disease with a Cure Disease Potion.
  • Activate any Shrine. The Shrine of Talos outside Whiterun will do. Shrines will cure you of all diseases.

Since it sounds like you're a Stage 4 vampire, you should feed so that you're no longer stage 4. To do this:

wait until night and drink the blood of a sleeping person. Even sleeping beggars will do. Just crouch/sneak and interact with a sleeping NPC to drink their blood.

NB: If you’re still having trouble drinking blood, remember that you have two useful abilities as a Stage 4 vampires — Embrace of Shadows, and Vampire Seduction. Embrace of Shadows turns you invisible, while Vampire Seduction will make an NPC calm and cease wanting to attack you.

Once you have contracted vampirism (e.g., gone beyond Day 4), you need to do the following:

  • Speak with any Inn Keeper or Bartender about rumors. They’ll tell you that a man named Falion in Morthal is studying vampires.

  • Find Morthal east of Fort Snowhawk. Once there, talk to Falion and he’ll discuss how to cure vampirism.

  • He’ll tell you to get a Black Soul Gem. If you don’t have one, Falion will sell you one. Before being cured, you’ll need to fill the Black Soul Gem.

To fill a Black Soul Gem, you’ll need to cast a Soul Trap spell on a human, then kill them. Any human will work, including bandits and enemies.

  • You’ll need to obtain a Soul Trap spell, sold by any magic vendor.

If you’re really desperate, try the College of Winterhold, or explore Whiterun to find a shop. If you don’t have high magic skills, just purchase a Soul Trap scroll. NOTE: The Mage for the Jarl of Whiterun, the Jarl’s Court Mage, should have a Soul Trap spell.

With a filled Black Soul Gem, return to Falion and talk to him to complete the ritual.

If you're fast, you can chug a Cure Disease potion or pray at a shrine.

Once Vampirism has set in however, you only have two options:

You can become a Werewolf.

or

If you harass enough bartenders for rumors, they will tell you about a fellow named Falion in Morthal who is working on a cure. He'll want Black Soul Gems though, so it won't be cheap or easy!

In Dawnstar I think next to the mine there is a hidden chest (under ground) which when you look at you can open, it is FULL of goodies, which you can sell. One of them is a weapon which when you kill someone with it it actually fills the soul gem for you, a quick short cut. The vampirism is very annoying.

One other thing, when you go to be cured, make sure you have fed on blood before hand otherwise he won't cure you and will instead fight you. Best go to a farm wait to dark, take off your armour and sneek in whislt they are asleep
